Dreamy, pale hues of peach, pink, grey, lilac and ivory evoke a cool European look. Unusual greens and earthy reds and browns combined with soft creams or beige give an ethnic feel. Bold red, black or blue against dull white or gray creates a modern appearance.
- Use pastel colours for the living and dining rooms, fairytale blues, greens and pinks for bedrooms, and bright and cheerful colours for the children's room.
In rooms where there is direct sunlight, choose light shades to avoid fading of the wall
colour.
- A single pale wash will visually enlarge a room, while combinations of patterns and colour call attention to the dimension of the room.
- Emphasize cornices and decorative mouldings, window arches and doorways to breakaway from the traditional monotone room. A brighter colour on the cornices and mouldings give the room a finished look.
- Do this especially in large rooms. Use stencilled borders and patterns on pillars and beams to break the monotony.
