Things to look for, while house foundation is being laid
Establishing a sound connection between the house, the foundation, and the
earth is crucial.
Laying
the foundation is the preliminary activity of the construction project.
Slabs, basements and crawl spaces are the three main foundation systems used
on houses. In wet and coastal areas, it is sometimes common to put houses up
on the posts as well.
Norms to be observed while laying the foundation:
Take sufficient number of trial pits for exact study of the strata.
Confirm the strata with a consultant before proceeding for P.C.C.
Excavate the foundation pit at the same level and avoid the footing
to rest on sloping strata.
Remove all the loose excavated material and clean the pit.
Give the size of the excavation pit to avail the working space for
the carpenter to fix and remove the shuttering box of P.C.C. Carry out
shoring in case of black cotton soil to avoid accidents.
Insist on the foundation drawing to be incorporated with centre line
plan to cross check overlapping of foundation, orientation of the column
etc.
De-watering of pits should be well planned.
Necessary permission should be taken prior to shifting underground
service lines such as drainage, electric cables and water lines to start
work.
Necessary approvals to cut the trees, stock (dump) the material on
public property etc., should be taken from the local authorities.
Permission to shift the over head service lines should be taken.
Safety precautions should be taken while excavating. Sufficient
lighting arrangements must be made to carry out the work at night.
Take precautions so that the foundation of the adjacent building is
not exposed while excavating the basement.
