Are
you moving to a new city?
It is with the typical ‘love- it’ ‘hate-it’ feeling with which you may
start. Here's a checklist that should ensure your moving is as smooth as
possible.
- Obtain information about your new city. Read up as much as possible.
This might make you more convenient with the place even before you step
into it.
- Find out about schools in your new city. This will not only help your
children but will also give a good indication of the place, its climate
and overall atmosphere.
- Estimate moving costs. This may include the cost of travel, cost of
transporting of your baggage and more. Allow for a 5% extension of your
budget. If it exceeds that, you must check.
- Research options for temporary furnished housing if you are moving
temporarily. This might be easily available if you ask friends around.
- Update your address book of friends and relatives
- Make a list of people you need to notify
- Begin sorting out those items you do not plan to move.
- Try and dispose off as many of those unwanted things. Try and plan a
date for a garage sale like it happens abroad.
- Look into insurance in your new city. All policies that you currently
have must be updated.
- You might need to get a NOC for your car or two-wheeler if you are
planning to use it in another state.
- Select a new bank, establish accounts and safe deposit box
- Make a list of things you will need to buy.
Happy Moving!
